Bajina Bašta
If you come to Tara, you will go through or visit Bajina Bašta, so you should know a few things about this peaceful and beautiful town. It has the population of 10,000 people, and the municipality has about 30,000.
It is situated on an altitude of only 257 meters.
Instead of the modern town there used to be a village called Pljeskovo during the Turkish reign. In Miloš Obrenović’s free Serbia, according to edict from 1833, Muslim population moves from the lands around Drina to Bosnia. In 1858, based on an advice from the Ministry of domestic affairs, State council makes the decision which declares Bajina Bašta the center of the Rača county instead of Rogačica.
This decision remains until this day.
